Itinerary
Day 1 Cape Town – Route 62 – Oudsthoorn
Depart from Cape Town and journey along the legendary Route 62, South Africa’s most scenic country road and the world’s longest wine route. The scenery shifts like a living painting, from vineyard-lined valleys to the rugged, golden plains of the Klein Karoo, where mountains stand tall over the vast landscape.
Pause in the Robertson Valley at Van Loveren Wines, a family-run estate where vines and traditions have grown together for generations. Beneath the shade of wild fig and oak trees, enjoy a tasting that celebrates local flavour. Choose between cheese & wine or chocolate & wine or a combined traditional local tastes of Africa wine pairing experience, sampling seasonal favourites with crisp Sauvignon Blancs to the bold, rich notes of Pinotage… each pairing telling its own story of place and heritage.
Continue toward Oudtshoorn, stopping for a relaxed lunch time and soaking in the wide-open beauty of the semi-desert countryside. Explore the ancient Cango Caves on a guided Heritage Tour, admiring their vast limestone chambers and intricate rock formations carved over millions of years.
Arrive at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, set beside a tranquil waterhole on the edge of the Klein Karoo. As the sun dips below the horizon, unwind on the deck as golden light dances on the water and hippos surface at dusk. Tonight, sleep under the stars in your luxury tent, surrounded by the quiet rhythm of nature and the peaceful spirit of the Klein Karoo.

Awake in the heart of the wild and, for those keen, join an optional early-morning Meerkat Safari at Buffelsdrift (optional at extra cost). Before dawn, watch these curious creatures emerge from their burrows to greet the rising sun. Thriving in the arid Klein Karoo, meerkats are known for their upright stance and sociable charm, and Buffelsdrift offers one of the best chances to see them in their natural habitat – weather permitting.
Stroll through Knysna’s vibrant Waterfront and take a short walk to the Knysna Heads Viewpoint, where forested mountains meet the sparkling Indian Ocean. Once a historic logging hub, Knysna is home to ancient yellowwoods and intimate beaches tucked between dramatic cliffs and turquoise rock pools -perfect for photos or quiet reflection.
Enjoy lunch time at leisure at the Knysna Waterfront, where inviting restaurants serve fresh seafood and regional delicacies. Sampling Knysna’s signature specialty, Cape Rock Oysters (available in season), is a must to embrace the always-on-holiday spirit of this laid-back coastal town like a true local.
Continue to Wilderness National Park, following scenic trails through golden beaches, indigenous forests, and fynbos-covered dunes. Keep an eye out for the vibrant green Knysna ‘Lourie’ turaco and other birdlife along tranquil lagoons and forest paths – a complete immersion in the Garden Route’s natural beauty.

Awaken to the crisp morning air and ocean scents before setting out on an exhilarating safari at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve. Nestled between Mossel Bay and George along the famed Garden Route, this 4,200-hectare reserve offers sweeping views of the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, with the chance to spot most of the African Big Five. Guided in a custom-fitted 4×4 vehicle, you may encounter giraffes, Cape mountain zebra, vervet monkeys, hippos, honey badgers, and the rare white rhino.
