Itinerary
Day 1 Sandakan, Malaysia
Sandakan – Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre – Rainforest Discovery Centre (L/D)
Arrive at Sandakan airport and take a transfer to Sepilok Jungle Resort, enclosed within a tropical virgin rainforest and just 5 minutes walk from the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch one of the nature’s most endangered animal species – the “orangutan” or “man of the jungle” in local language – which swings from branches to branches towards the feeding station. Then visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to see the smallest bear in the world.
After lunch, go to the Rainforest Discovery Centre located within the famous Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. The Exhibition Centre and the Plant Discovery Centre will bring you a lot of information about the nature in the area. Then you will walk on a suspension bridge and end with the only Canopy Walk in Sandakan. Standing on 28m above the forest floor is truly amazing.
Have dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart Sepilok and head overland to Bilit for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a cruise along the Kinabatangan River to observe a variety of wildlife. The river is home to numerous species, including 10 species of primates, 8 species of hornbills, mangrove snakes, vipers, estuarine crocodiles, Asian elephants, and many other fascinating creatures.
